The Kiribati National Championships 2013 or Te Runga 2013 had eventually come to its end marked with an official Closing Ceremony held inside the Betio Sports Complex on the evening of Saturday 6th October 2013. By now, all outer-islands athletes should have settled down on their islands after been returned on ships provided for them by the KSA via the help of the fund by the Government, organizations and companies. The spirit of sports felt and seen to have overwhelmed the atmosphere of South Tarawa and Betio during the two weeks of competition has finally eased and gone back to its normal state.
The Runga 2013, of course ended up with Winners and Losers …
Congratulations to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd winners! Well, you really have earned such top places because of your all-out and concerted effort, dedication and sportsmanship therefore placing you high above your rivals. The success will always be remembered by you as well as the people of Kiribati.
To the rest of the teams who had participated, though you didn’t win any prize, you certainly had performed well and to your very best - for your islands. We know that losing in the games doesn’t mean that we aren’t good; it does mean that others have done a little better than us at those hours. What’s there for us to do now? Yes, we need to practise more and more so we are successfully selected again to take part in the next and future games - where then we can check how well we can perform!
