Nareau And The Sun

Nareau's reflection was the sole light inside the Bomatemaki because the other sources were still inactive. Nareau reached out his hands and started cleaning the dust and dirt on the bigger light source. As he did so, he chatted out a strange chant:

          Bon te ai ngkoe (you are the fire)
          Bakani kauti matam (open your eyes)
          Kauti matam te ai (open your eyes fire)

Nareau and The Bomatemaki Floor

When the 'bora' (top part or roof) of the bomatemaki was fully raised up, Nareau asked everyone to come and sit around him with Ngkoangkoa . Then he said to them, "Now, the roof of the bomatemaki has been separated from the floor as we have raised the top part. This has been a difficult but successful job done by everyone. I will now finish everything that needs to be done to the floor. But before that let me name the roof as 'Karawa' (sky) and the floor as 'Tarawa' (land), and water there as...

Nareau and The Bomatemaki

Nareau's head was now full of thoughts. His nose started to get wiggled and finally gave out a great sneeze. Out of his sneeze fell an enormous turtle-shell like object. The center of this object was too low and narrow for anybody to sit straight in it.

The bottom part of this round object was composed of sand and water. Its center was raised but the side was closed all around. This object was Te Bomatemaki which had really come out of Nareau's sneeze.

Nareau The Creator

Well before existence, there was a god called Nareau. He just floated all by himself sleeping on nothing.

As he did so, he heard a voice calling him, "Nareau! Why are you doing that?" Quite amazed, he opened his eyes to see who was calling him. He saw nothing so he closed his eyes again.

A while later, the same voice called Nareau for the second time, "Nareau, aren't you bored doing nothing but sleeping?" Again Nareau looked around to see who made the sound. None could he only see...
